Borderlands 4 has officially been announced!

Gearbox kicked off Gamescom 2024 by announcing Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 was revealed with a teaser trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The announcement of Borderlands 4 came ironically after the disappointing reception of the Borderlands movie.

The announcement trailer doesn’t reveal much about the next entry in the series, but we can see that it’s directly tied to the ending of Borderlands 3. The trailer’s final scene also shows someone with a bionic arm getting the Borderlands Psycho mask. No gameplay footage was shown in the teaser trailer, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see a first look at gameplay towards the end of the year.

The trailer’s description states, ”In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet.”

The announcement of Borderlands 4 was already expected. Take-Two, which acquired Gearbox for $460 million last March, confirmed that a new Borderlands game was in development. Borderlands 4 will be the fourth mainline game and the seventh overall entry in the series and will be the last main game to be released since Borderlands 3 in 2019. Two spin-off games, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and New Tales from the Borderlands, were released in 2022. According to publisher 2K, the game is expected to be released sometime between April 2025 and late 2025.
