Hogwarts Legacy, one of the most anticipated games of the year, stands out as the Harry Potter game that covers the world of Hogwarts in the most comprehensive way. As a Harry Potter fan and player, Hogwarts Legacy, one of the most expected games of this year, finally made its debut on February 7 for those who bought the Deluxe Edition, and on February 10 for those who bought the regular version, for Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5 and PC. The old generation consoles were postponed to April 4 and the Nintendo Switch to July 25 to better adjust the optimization.

Utah-based US video game company Avalanche Software uses the Unreal Engine 4 game engine, which is used in many games for Hogwarts Legacy. This was a choice that significantly affected the visuality of the game. Now let’s take a look at the basic operation and mechanics of the game.

Being a late starter at Hogwarts

In Hogwarts Legacy, we play a 15-year-old student who starts school late. Of course, that’s not all, a story full of mystery awaits us, which intrigues and draws the player in. We adjust all the hair, gender, skin color of our character ourselves. This is a nice feature to connect more with our character. At the same time, we can take classes with our character and gain experience.

After a while, the main quests start asking for a level limit. The fact that the game forces us to do side quests to reach these levels has seemed like an unnecessary and boring feature that lengthened the game.

A perfectly designed Hogwarts!

What Hogwarts Legacy does best is the interior design of Hogwarts castle. From the talking paintings on the wall to the self-playing musical instruments, from the interesting characters we see in the book to the cats walking around, Hogwarts castle is very well designed and it is fun to walk around. It is possible to find interesting puzzles and nice details around every time you visit.

Although the exterior of Hogwarts is not as detailed as the castle, it is possible to find nice details and small events outside. Especially the stores in the village are designed exactly the same as the movie, and it is very enjoyable to visit them and shop. Apart from that, it is quite enjoyable to travel in this world with our broom or mount. Although the graphics of Hogwarts Legacy are not very high-level, they have managed to make an open world full, lively and fun to navigate.

Fun gameplay

The part I enjoyed most about Hogwarts Legacy was definitely the gameplay and action. Combos with spells feel very fun and fulfilling. I think it’s a plus that the combos aren’t too hard. There are 23 spells in Hogwarts Legacy, but not all of them are used for action, there are spells used to destroy items or collect a scattered place.

At the same time, there are various fun activities within the Hogwarts castle. In the second hour of the game, you can decorate a small room given to you as you wish. From the shape of the paintings to the look of the walls and the shape of the chairs, you can completely shape this room according to your own tastes. I can say that I spent a lot of time in this room since I enjoy the decoration part in games. Because you use this place as your own base, how you shape and use this room is entirely up to you. Finally, although the boss battles in the game are not very difficult, they are fun and beautifully designed.

Few missings

While Hogwarts Legacy is fun, it has a few shortcomings. The side missions were pretty boring in my opinion. There are side quests just to prolong the game, such as collecting things around. You also have to do these side missions because of the level cap, which gets annoying after a while. Dialogues are also very long. Although 1-2 hours of the game is pleasant, after a while you start to pass all of these dialogues. In addition, the optimization problem seen in almost every game today is also present in this game. Especially when you go to the open world, freezes and FPS drops are seen a lot in the game.

Discussed gameplay time and Deluxe Edition contents

Hogwarts Legacy offers between 30 and 50 hours of gameplay, which is enough for me personally. But for players who want to spend more time in the world of Hogwarts, this time may seem a bit insufficient. However, you can extend this time by doing all the side quests and interacting with everything in the environment.

As for the price of Hogwarts Legacy, it is 700 TL in Steam, 900 TL in PS Store and Xbox. You can choose the Deluxe Edition by adding 100 TL to these prices. The price of Hogwarts Legacy seemed reasonable to me, at least for the PC. In this period when the games started to be in the 1500 TL band, 700 TL was enough for a game that will take you 30-40 hours.

Evaluation

Hogwarts Legacy, apart from some shortcomings, is a nice, classic open-world game, and it has been the most comprehensive and beautiful game of Hogwarts to date. I recommend this game for Harry Potter fans and anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the Harry Potter universe. For those who are far from the Harry Potter universe, this game will feel like an ordinary open world. However, I recommend that players who are far from this universe give Hogwarts Legacy a chance due to its atmosphere and enjoyable gameplay.
