Nintendo has confirmed that it is working on a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. The movie will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

After the great success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie at the box office, Nintendo is now planning to bring The Legend of Zelda to the big screen. The film will be directed by Wes Ball, who directed The Maze Runner trilogy. Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto will executive produce along with Avi Arad. The script of the film is being written by Derek Connolly, who previously wrote Kong: Skull Island and Jurassic World. Although not many details were given about the film, it was announced that the film will be financed by Nintendo & Sony and more than 50 percent of the bill will belong to Nintendo. On the other hand, Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the film worldwide.

With this announcement, a Zelda movie will be made for the first time. The series previously had an animated TV series that aired in 1989. It was later said that Netflix would develop a new Zelda series in 2015, but then the project was canceled. Director Wes Ball seems to focus on the Zelda movie after his next movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

On Nintendo’s official Twitter account, Miyamoto announced that he had been working on the movie with Avi Arad for a while.

Following the success of Mario movie, Nintendo seems to want to gradually adapt its other characters into movies and TV series and take part in this industry.

We have to wait a while for The Legend of Zelda movie, which doesn’t even have a release range yet. Stay tuned to our site for more details in the future.
