We’re returning to Middle-earth. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released the trailer for the highly anticipated feature-length anime movie The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, the animated film stars Brian Cox as the voice of Helm Hammerhand, while additional actors include Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Shaun Dooley and Lorraine Ashbourne. The War of the Rohirrim will also feature Miranda Otto, who reprises her role as Éowyn, as the film’s narrator and Phillippa Boyens, who co-wrote The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as an executive producer.
This prequel will reveal the untold story of Rohan’s former ruler Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox). The trailer gives us a glimpse into the story, which centers on the conflict between Rohan and the wild Dunlendings. After an arranged marriage between Helm’s daughter Hèra (Gaia Wise) and Dunland Prince Wulf (Luke Pasqualino) fails, leading to the death of Wulf’s father Freca (Shaun Dooley). The war that followed this incident shortly afterward would lead to a bloody conflict. While Helm defends his kingdom, Hèra may be Rohan’s only hope. While the film largely remains faithful to J.R.R. Tolkien‘s work, it expands on some of the backstories and characters that Tolkien created to enrich the world of Middle-earth.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be released in theaters on December 13. You can watch the trailer below.
